TL;DR

The best East Memphis restaurants, verified October 2026: Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen and Hog & Hominy on Brookhaven Circle, Kelly English's Restaurant Iris and The Second Line in Laurelwood, Folk's Folly on Mendenhall since 1977, Acre in its converted house on Perkins, Owen Brennan's Sunday jazz brunch at Regalia, and Corky's ribs on Poplar. This guide covers 40 spots, grouped by occasion.

East Memphis restaurants have changed more in the last few years than the neighborhood's reputation suggests. Kelly English moved Restaurant Iris and The Second Line out of Midtown and into one building on Poplar. Brookhaven Circle has two Ticer and Hudman rooms facing each other. A short stretch of Mendenhall Road now has a cheese shop, a wine bar, a diner, a steakhouse from 1977, and Gus's within a few blocks. If you think of East Memphis as office towers and Poplar traffic, the food will surprise you.

Every restaurant below sits inside Memphis city limits east of the Highland area, and we checked each one at its own website in October 2026, reading the street address and ZIP rather than trusting the name. Hours appear only where the restaurant prints them. Germantown starts where the ZIP turns 38138; those spots are in our Germantown, TN restaurants guide. Heading the other way? Closed, moved, or not what it seems

Two traps catch people searching for East Memphis restaurants. Sekisui East is not in East Memphis: its own site lists 6696 Poplar with ZIP 38138, which is Germantown. The East Memphis Sekisui is Pacific Rim at 4727 Poplar. And Kirby Parkway addresses can carry the Germantown ZIP too: One & Only BBQ lists 1779 Kirby Pkwy, 38138, so we left it to the suburbs.

We couldn't confirm a few longtime names at a source of their own this round, as of October 2026: The Half Shell on Mendenhall (its site says a new one is coming and still shows old specials), Belmont Grill (its web address now points elsewhere), Salsa at Regalia (its site didn't load), and Neil's Music Room on Quince (its site's newest post is from 2020). None of that means they're closed. Call before you go, and we'll add them once we can verify them. National chains on the corridor, like Ruth's Chris and The Capital Grille, are left off on purpose.

What are the best East Memphis restaurants?

For a big night: Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen, Restaurant Iris, Folk's Folly, or Acre. For something easier: Hog & Hominy, The Second Line, or Owen Brennan's Sunday jazz brunch. For barbecue, Corky's on Poplar. For breakfast, Sunrise or The Liquor Store. Each was checked at its own site this October. The citywide picks are in the best restaurants in Memphis.

Where is East Memphis, and where does Germantown start?

East Memphis is the part of the city along Poplar and Park Avenue from roughly Highland east toward the Germantown line, including Laurelwood, Regalia, and the Clark Tower area. Most addresses carry ZIP 38117, 38119, or 38120. Once the ZIP reads 38138 or 38139, you're in Germantown. Our Memphis neighborhoods guide maps the rest.

Which East Memphis restaurants are good for a date night?

Andrew Michael (dinner Mon–Sat), Folk's Folly and its downstairs Cellar Lounge, Acre in its renovated house on Perkins, and Erling Jensen, which serves nightly and turns 30 this fall. For something less formal, try Hen House on Mendenhall for wine and dinner, or Marciano on Brookhaven Circle, which closes only on Tuesdays.

Where can I get breakfast in East Memphis?

Gibson's Donuts opens at 5am, Sunrise at 7am daily, Hive at 7am daily, and City Silo at 7am Monday through Saturday. The Liquor Store serves breakfast all day, 7:30am to 3pm. On weekends, Hog & Hominy and Hen House do brunch, and Owen Brennan's Sunday jazz brunch starts at 9am.

Which East Memphis restaurants are closed on Mondays?

Plan around these: River Oaks, Memphis Pizza Cafe on Park, Mosa, GREYS, Magnolia & May, and Park & Cherry at the Dixon. Napa Café serves only Wednesday through Saturday. Andrew Michael and Ronnie Grisanti's are the opposite: open Monday, closed Sunday. Marciano closes Tuesdays instead.
