The Guide
Best Pizza in Memphis: Every Slice That's Worth It

TL;DR
The best pizza in Memphis runs deeper than one style: Coletta's has served its famous BBQ pizza since 1923, Memphis Pizza Cafe's thin flaky crust has anchored Overton Square for nearly three decades, Little Bettie fires New Haven-style pies inside Wiseacre's downtown taproom, and Hog & Hominy holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand. Thirty pizzerias across the whole 901 — every one verified open at its own site in August 2026, including the three different 'Little Italys' people keep mixing up.
Memphis pizza doesn't get the national press the barbecue does, and that's exactly how the regulars like it: the city has been quietly running century-old pie rooms, family pizzerias on their second and third generations, and — because this is Memphis — barbecue pizza, which locals have treated as a food group since before it was a trend.
Here's the current, verified map: 30 pizzerias across the whole 901, every one confirmed at its own site in August 2026, with addresses, published hours, and an untangling of the three different 'Little Italys' — because the pizza search results here are a maze of moved rooms, renamed rooms, and same-name traps. The institutions
Rooms with decades on the clock — all re-verified, August 2026.
- Coletta'sSouth Memphis + Appling Rd
'Memphis' oldest restaurant, since 1923' says their own banner — and the famous BBQ pizza is the reason to go: smoked pork shoulder and barbecue sauce on a pie, the combination this city takes credit for. - Pete & Sam'sEast Memphis, 3886 Park Ave

- Broadway PizzaBroad Ave + S Mendenhall
Family-owned on Broad Avenue since 1977 — old-fashioned pies in the arts district, with a second room on Mendenhall. Their website has been temperamental lately, so call before a special trip.

- Memphis Pizza CafeOverton Square + 3 more
The thin, flaky crust that's been 'best pizza in Memphis' on their sign for 28 years running — Overton Square is open seven days, with Park Ave, Germantown, and Collierville rooms closed Mondays. The default answer when a Memphian says 'let's just get pizza.'

The two that got away — and two you can't quite Google
Worth knowing before you follow an old list: Trolley Stop Market closed in January 2020, and the Little Italy on Union Ave is gone — that lineage lives on as Slice Midtown in Arlington, above. Meanwhile two very-alive rooms barely exist online: Wapos at 394 N Watkins (Crosstown's buzzy newcomer — the vodka pie and hot-honey pepperoni; schedule lives on their Instagram, @wapos.co) and the Memphis Chess Club at 195 Madison, where a club founded in 1877 now runs a full café with pizza downtown. Both verified alive in August 2026; check their socials for hours before you go.

The honest answers
Who has the best pizza in Memphis?
Depends on your style: Memphis Pizza Cafe's thin flaky crust for the everyday order, Coletta's for the historic BBQ pizza (serving since 1923), Little Bettie for New Haven-style downtown, and Hog & Hominy — a 2025 Michelin Bib Gourmand — for the chef-driven pie. All verified open at their own sites, August 2026.
What is Memphis-style pizza?
Two local signatures: barbecue pizza — smoked pork and barbecue sauce on a pie, the order Coletta's made famous and Elwood's Shack smokes in-house today — and the Exlines' school of 'Memphis style,' toppings piled edge to edge with no bare crust ring. Both are worth ordering at the source.
Where's the best pizza in downtown Memphis?
Little Bettie's New Haven-style pies inside Wiseacre's taproom on B.B. King Blvd, Aldo's on Main Street for NY-style, Little Italy Downtown at 106 GE Patterson for the fold-in-half slice, Bar Hustle's sourdough squares on South Main — and Silly Goose at Peabody Place serves wood-fired pies to midnight or later.
Are there really three Little Italys in Memphis?
Three lineages, yes: Little Italy Downtown (106 GE Patterson Ave) and Little Italy East (6300 Poplar Ave) are separate operations, and the old Little Italy on Union Ave moved to Arlington and renamed itself Slice Midtown (8781 Chaffee Rd). The Union Avenue room is gone — don't drive there.
