Fire spinners on Broad, free soul at the museum, and the heat finally lets go

Hey Memphis 👋 It's Wednesday. Ninety-three and a wind out of the north, which is exactly the break we promised you yesterday. It's the first evening in a week you can stand outside on purpose, so we found eight things to do with it, and every last one of them is free.

Alley Dayz 2026 Kickoff — National Civil Rights Museum courtyard, 450 Mulberry St., 5:30–7:30 PM, free. Downtown's alley series opens its season with Talibah Safiya and Maarifa playing the courtyard and local vendors set up around them. No ticket, no cover, just show up. Details

July Full Moon Jam — Wiseacre OG Taproom, 2783 Broad Ave., 6–10:30 PM, free. Grind City Flow Arts turns the Broad Avenue lot into a fire-spinning jam with real lighting and sound and a food truck. If watching isn't enough, $15 gets you into a workshop: fire batons with Jessica Haney, or intro to staff with Pretty Melo. Details

SWEAT at the Shell — Overton Park Shell, 1928 Poplar Ave., 5:30–6:30 PM, free. An hour of Pilates, strength and stretch from The Well, on the same stage the concerts use. Full disclosure: we left this one out yesterday because working out outdoors under an extreme heat warning seemed like a bad thing to recommend. Tonight it's six degrees cooler with a breeze, so here it is. Details

Munch and Learn: Dining Out with Gustave Flaubert — Dixon Gallery and Gardens, 4339 Park Ave., noon, free. Kevin Sharp, the Dixon's own director, on how Flaubert ate. Bring your lunch or buy one at Park and Cherry on the way in. Details

Gardening and Preserving — North Library, 1192 Vollintine Ave., 12–1:30 PM, free. A hands-on pickling and fermenting session for adults, and whatever you put up, you take home with you. Details

The Springer Sisters Guide to Garage & Attic Organization — Burch Library, Collierville, 6–7 PM, free. Professional organizers take on the two rooms in your house nobody wants to talk about. It was down to five open seats when we checked, so register before you drive out. Details

SINGO Music Bingo — Rotolo's Craft & Crust, Southaven, 6:30–8:30 PM, free. Bingo where the numbers are songs, over pizza, and early enough that a school-night bedtime survives it. Details

Kocktails & Karaoke — D'Bo's Riverdale, Hickory Hill, 7–9:30 PM, free. A standing Wednesday karaoke night out in Hickory Hill, which almost nobody else bothers to tell you about. Details

📰 The Rundown

Grind City Amp has its fall lineup up. The 4,500-seat riverfront amphitheater at 76 Waterworks has the Avett Brothers with Drive-By Truckers on October 1 and Ole 60 on October 24, and tickets are on sale now. (via Grind City Amp)

Music Export Memphis just turned ten. The nonprofit spends its money getting Memphis artists onto stages outside the city, funding tours and showcases for musicians like Nick Black and Blvck Hippie, and it marked the milestone with a free birthday bash on Beale over the weekend. The old Memphis International Raceway in Millington has a new name and a new plan. The International Hot Rod Association, which bought the vacant track in 2024, is calling it Darana Motorsports Park Millington and broke ground in January on a $60 million rebuild that adds a dirt track and a concert amphitheater alongside the drag strip and the oval. Reopening is now aimed at 2027. (via Action News 5)

Germantown may be getting a drive-thru coffee cafe. Ramblin' Joe's, which already runs five Tennessee locations, has filed plans with the city's Design Review Commission for a 3,000-square-foot spot at 1227 South Germantown Road with 19 indoor seats, a patio and a drive-thru window. 🍽️ Food & Drink

Josephine Estelle and Rosie's Tavern — Andy Ticer and Michael Hudman took their Italian-American room out to Germantown, into a new building at The Standard on Poplar. Downstairs is pasta-forward and made fresh every day behind a glass wall you can watch; upstairs, Rosie's Tavern is a neighborhood cocktail bar doing steaks and burgers. It's been open since Memorial Day weekend, so it's had time to find its feet. 6695 Poplar Ave., reservations on Resy. Details

🎟️ Looking Ahead

Collierville's concert finale is tomorrow — Generation Gap closes the Town Square gazebo season Thursday, 7–9 PM, free. That's the last one until next summer, so this is the night for the lawn chairs. Details

The Peabody rooftop, also tomorrow — Basketcase plays the Thursday party, 6–10 PM, $15 general admission and $40 VIP, 21 and up with no exceptions. If storms roll through it moves down to the Skyway Ballroom rather than cancelling. Details

Deep Purple and Kansas — August 6 at Radians Amphitheater. The Botanic Garden hasn't posted a gate time or a price yet, so watch that page if you want in. Details
