Pilates in the Park — Overton Park Shell, 1928 Poplar Ave., 5:30–6:30 PM, free. Ballet Memphis runs an all-ages, all-levels class on the Shell's lawn, with nothing to buy and nothing to sign. Bring water and low expectations of your own hamstrings — the heat index is still near triple digits at five-thirty. Details

Laugh Box: Rob Love, Josh Johnson, Quin Kelly & Mzzz. Kecia — Hattiloo Culture Box, 37 Cooper St., 6:30–9:30 PM, $12 in advance or $15 at the door. Four comics on one bill in a room small enough that the back row is still within heckling distance, which is either the appeal or the warning. Details

MORIAH w/ Brady Jones — Growlers, 1911 Poplar Ave., doors at 7, show at 8, $10, all ages. A ten-dollar touring bill on a Wednesday, with no age limit on the door — the kind of show you catch now and mention later like you always knew. Details

Closet Systems That Stick — Burch Library, Collierville, 6–7 PM, free. A professional organizer on master closets, linen closets, and the monthly reset that keeps them from sliding back by October. Registration required, and there were fourteen seats left when we checked. Details

Puzzle Club — Walls Public Library, 7181 Delta Bluff Pkwy, Walls, 1:30–3:30 PM, free. Two hours of jigsaws and easy conversation at a DeSoto County branch — the sort of standing weekday thing that never turns up on a Memphis events list. Details

👶 With the kids

Kaleidoscope Club — Dixon Gallery & Gardens, 4339 Park Ave., 4–5 PM, $8 and free for members, ages 5 to 9. A different art or horticulture project every week in the Dixon's education building. Registration required and space is limited — and the $8 is for the program; walking into the Dixon itself is free now, permanently. Details

LEGO Club — Officer Geoffrey Redd Library, 5094 Poplar Ave., 3:30–4:30 PM, free, ages 7 and under. An hour of open building after school, no sign-up, and the best part of the arrangement is that the bin stays at the library. Details

Join the Quest: Dungeons & Dragons — Cordova Library, 8457 Trinity Rd., 4–6 PM, free, teens. Two hours in the Teen Innovation Center with the dice, the books and the table already handled, so nobody has to be the kid whose house it's at. Registration is open and covers the whole run of Wednesdays. Details

📰 The Rundown

Indie Memphis comes back November 5 through 8 after a year off, and it opens with The Lorraine — Sam Pollard's documentary about the Lorraine Motel. Its argument is that the building was a center of Black Memphis life, and one of the few places Black travelers could actually stay in the Jim Crow South, for decades before April 1968 — not only the place where Dr. King was killed. MLGW will inspect your pilot light for free all September — the 2nd through the 30th, appointments Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Worth putting on the calendar now for two reasons: after October 1 the same visit costs $68, and it stays free year-round if you're 60 or older or have a disability. Scheduling is 901-544-6549. A wholesale florist called The After Hours Flowers has its certificate of occupancy for 1595 Bartlett Road — 6,000 square feet for cutting, arranging and running its own delivery fleet. No opening date announced. (via WhatNow Memphis)

If you make something, Collierville wants you: Burch Library has opened vendor applications for its November 14 Holiday Market, and the call is deliberately broad — artists, crafters, woodworkers, jewelers, bakers, food vendors. The market runs 10 AM to 3 PM. (via Town of Collierville)

Cooper-Young is getting a full-bar breakfast joint. Big Bad Breakfast is under construction at 2149 Young Avenue — 5,000 square feet with room for 174, and its sign permit came through August 18, which is usually where these things stop being rumors. A Michael Jackson tribute at the Green Room on Friday — MICHAEL: A JussPlay LIVE Experience plays Crosstown Arts' Green Room August 28, 7:30 to 9:30, $20 to $30. Details

Memphis Vintage Market takes the Crosstown atrium Saturday — August 29, 11 AM to 6 PM, in the Central Atrium at Crosstown Concourse. Crosstown doesn't publish an admission price for it, so treat that as a question for the door. Details

The Shell's free concert series returns September 4 — with a KoRn tribute — KARROT plays metal night at the Overton Park Shell, 7 to 9, free, with food trucks on site. Coolers, blankets and lawn chairs are welcome, which is a very funny sentence to write about metal night. Details
