Harry Lennix opens at the Hattiloo, a $10 Elvis dinner show, and 100 degrees

Sunny, 100, heat index reaching 110, and the Heat Advisory holds until Sunday evening — so the weekend we mapped out yesterday starts tonight, and most of it starts after dark. ☀️ Today in Memphis

Speak, Salvation, Speak — Hattiloo Theatre, 7:30 PM. Harry Lennix, who you know from The Blacklist and the Superman films, in a drama about the kind of faith you don't choose so much as inherit. It opened last night and runs through September 6, so tonight is early enough that nobody has told you how it ends. Tickets at the box office, 901-525-0009. Details

Robert Washington Dinner Show — Hernando's Hide-A-Way, show at 5 PM, $10. An Elvis tribute act, a dinner show, and a ten-dollar cover in the South Memphis juke joint Jerry Lee Lewis used to close down. Starts early enough that it can be the whole evening or just the first half of one. Details

Free evening walk-up to the Meditation Garden — Graceland, 6:30–8 PM, free. Elvis Week's quietest ninety minutes. The gates open, you walk up, you stand there, and nobody charges you anything. Tomorrow night this same driveway holds thousands of people with candles. Details

Live at the Garden: John Legend — Radians Amphitheater at Memphis Botanic Garden, gates 5:30, show 8 PM. Worth repeating from yesterday's guide, because it's still the biggest thing happening in Memphis tonight: songs, stories, and a lawn you're allowed to bring your own bottle to. The venue's policy is rain or shine, which in this forecast means heat or heat. Details

FedEx St. Jude Championship, second round — TPC Southwind. The cut falls today, so this is the round where the leaderboard stops being polite. Still the best family arithmetic in town: every ticketed adult brings two kids 15 and under in free. Details

👶 With the kids

Sensory Storytime — Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, 11 AM–12 PM. A story time built for kids who find the regular one too loud, too bright, or just too much all at once. Details

LEGO of Your Imagination — Raleigh Library, 4–5 PM. An hour of bricks in a building somebody else is air-conditioning, which on a 100-degree Friday is really the entire pitch. Details

📰 The Rundown

The golf raised more than $200,000 for St. Jude before anybody hit a competitive shot. The pro-am, a putting session with patients, and a concert at TPC Southwind all landed before Thursday's first round, which is a decent argument for showing up early to things. (via Action News 5)

JoJo's Espresso is crossing the state line. The cafe has plans for a Southaven location — the target is 2027, so DeSoto County has a long, patient wait ahead of it, but it's coming. (via WhatNow Memphis)

🍽️ Food & Drink

Meddlesome Brewing has a good Friday lined up — happy hour runs 4–6 PM with a dollar off every pint, and at 7 the taproom turns into a comedy room for Hops & HaHas, their monthly stand-up showcase with local and touring comics. It's at 7750 Trinity Road in Cordova, they're open till 10, and almost nobody in Midtown knows it's there. Details

🎟️ Looking Ahead

Mean Girls the Musical — opens Friday, August 21 at Playhouse on the Square and runs through September 13. Yes, that one. Yes, there's a song. Details

Cooper-Young Festival — Saturday, September 19, 9 AM to 7 PM. The one weekend a year the neighborhood closes the streets. Still worth putting on the calendar now. Details
