Dale Watson's birthday at Hernando's, a free horror classic at Crosstown, and karaoke at Hattiloo

Plus the last week of Brick Dinos, Tennessee Tuesday at the zoo, and the Mid-South Fair's free day tomorrow.

Hey Memphis 👋 It's Tuesday. Sunny and dry, a high near 84 with a light breeze and zero chance of rain. It starts in the mid-50s, so this is the kind of morning where you leave with a jacket and come home carrying it.

☕ Byway today

Paradox at PeCo — 7 AM–1 PM

That's per their posted schedule, and the trailers do move — their IG has the full week. New here? Our coffee guide has the story on the Airstream that comes to you.

Fright-Tober: Carnival of Souls — Crosstown Theater, 1350 Concourse Ave., 6:30–8:30 PM, free. Crosstown's October horror series screens the 1962 cult classic, the low-budget one with the eerie organ score that has been creeping people out for more than 60 years. Details

Toy Box: Karaoke & R&Bingo — Hattiloo Theatre's Culture Box, 37 Cooper St., 6:30–8:30 PM, pay what you want. Hattiloo's Tuesday lounge night puts a karaoke mic on one side of the room and chess, checkers, Jenga and Mancala on the other. Drift between them. Details

📰 The Rundown

Free shots for Shelby County pets: on Saturday, Oct. 17, starting at 7 AM, the Health Department, Memphis Animal Services and All 4s Rescue League hold a drive-thru clinic at 1826 Sycamore View Rd. Dogs and cats 3 months and up get free rabies and parvo shots, microchips and license tags while the 450 doses last. Bring an ID that shows you live in Shelby County, and the limit is five pets per car. (via Shelby County Health Department)

Austin is a nonstop away now. Southwest started flying Memphis to Austin on Oct. 1, Sunday through Friday, which gives the airline 11 nonstop cities out of MEM. (via Memphis International Airport)

The city hit its 100-Demo goal: 100 vacant, unsafe houses torn down in 60 days, from Aug. 1 to Oct. 1. It says the work keeps going, and you can report a vacant or dangerous property by calling 311. (via City of Memphis)

🍽️ Food & Drink

Old Whitten Tavern — 2465 Whitten Rd., on the Raleigh–Bartlett line, 7 AM–11 PM Tuesday through Friday. Since breakfast is apparently the topic of the fall: this one serves its full menu, breakfast included, until an hour before close, so breakfast for dinner is a real option. It's family-owned, smoke-free and all ages, with a long bourbon list for the grown-ups. Details

🏡 Community Corner

One more breakfast vote landed yesterday morning, short and certain. Jordan E.: Brother Juniper's. That's three of you and not a single overlap, which tells us the question is far from settled.

The tip line never closes — a pop-up, a band, a Tuesday night we missed. No gatekeeping — send it to hey@heymemphis.co.

That's it for today — see you tomorrow at 6.
