The bluff's last day, Suffs opens, and free music on the Grove lawn

Hey Memphis 👋 It's Friday, and the weekend we mapped out for you yesterday actually starts tonight. If you missed that one, here's the whole weekend in one place. Two things shifted since we sent it: the Metal Museum is down to its final afternoon on the bluff, and the tennis out at Leftwich just got more expensive, which is generally how you know it got good.

Happy Friday at The Grove — GPAC, 1801 Exeter Road, Germantown, 5–8 PM, free, no tickets. Worth repeating from yesterday's guide, because it's still the easiest free plan in the metro tonight: Josh Threlkeld leading the sing-along with Lina Beach, a full bar on the plaza, Kona Ice for the kids. One caveat we'll keep making until the season ends — this series does get called for weather, so glance at the sky. Details

Teachers' Night Out — Dixon Gallery and Gardens, 4339 Park Ave., 5–7 PM, free with supplies included. If you teach, this one's built for you: art making, refreshments, and a classroom supply swap right as the year winds up to start. Details

The Memphis Classic, night session — Leftwich Tennis Center, 4145 Southern Ave., 6 PM, from about $51. Last night session before championship weekend, and the price has climbed from about $41 earlier in the week because the draw has thinned out. Semis are tomorrow at 1, the final's Sunday at 12:30. Gates open an hour early. Details

Tomb Talks — Elmwood Cemetery chapel, 824 S. Dudley St., 6–7:30 PM, from about $22 in advance and $30 at the door. We flagged this one Tuesday and it's tonight: Victorian cemetery symbolism and the 1878 yellow fever epidemic, with a short guided walk and a glass of wine. Adults. Details

Incognito, final bidding — Memphis Botanic Garden, 750 Cherry Road, party 6–8 PM, online bids close 7:30, free and no tickets needed. Ten days ago we told you bidding had opened on more than a hundred unsigned works by Mid-South artists. Tonight it closes, and nobody's name gets attached to anything until after it sells. Their line, not ours: bid on what you love, not who you know. One heads-up, the garden's outdoor grounds are closed for the evening, so this is an indoors night. Details

SUFFS opens tonight — Orpheum Theatre, 203 S. Main St., 7:30 PM, $62.20–$162.20. The Tony-winning musical about the women who won the vote, and four performances is the entire run: tonight, twice tomorrow, and an early curtain Sunday. Two and a half hours with one intermission. Details

Sad Daddy — Hernando's Hide-A-Way, 3210 Old Hernando Rd., doors 6 PM, show 8 PM, $10–$15. Friday country in the old juke joint out on Old Hernando, same doors-at-six rhythm the room keeps all week. Details

The Contradictions with After The Rain and Serg. — Growlers, 1911 Poplar Ave., doors 7 PM, show 8 PM, $10. Three alternative acts, ten dollars, Midtown. Details

📰 The Rundown

Today is the last day to see the Metal Museum on the bluff. Its final exhibition there, What We Surround Ourselves With, closes tonight, and the museum shuts that riverbluff campus tomorrow before moving to Rust Hall in Overton Park. If you've been meaning to stand on that lawn and look at the river, this is the afternoon. (via the Metal Museum)

A golf tournament tomorrow is trying to open a fifth DJ's Care Closet. Dennis Price Sr. and Tracy Price stock closets that give out school supplies, new clothes and hygiene items free to students who need them, named for their son, a Ridgeway High athlete who died of an undiagnosed heart condition in 2013. Four are running now — Ridgeway Middle, Westwood High, Geeter K-8 and Fairley High — and Price says the waiting list is up to 203 schools. The Dennis Price Jr Golf Classic tees off Saturday at The Links at Pine Hill, aiming at $25,000. (via Action News 5)

Ginger's Bread and Co is moving its baking kitchen from Union Avenue to 62 South Cooper. Owners Jimmy Hoxie and Grant Whittle filed to take over a space that already has a bake kitchen in it, so the buildout should be light. The Union Ave location is the one open in the meantime. Ahi Asian Bistro — Lakeland picked up an Asian bistro doing Chinese and Japanese dishes with a lighter hand, at 9789 Market Green Place S. Open Tuesday through Sunday, 11 to 8, closed Mondays. One thing to know before you drive out: it's pickup only, so this is a dinner-at-home plan and not a night out. (via StyleBlueprint) Details
