Collierville breaks ground, free Pilates on the Shell lawn, and the golf finally lets everybody in

Collierville Burch Library & Civic Center groundbreaking — 501 Poplar View Parkway, Collierville, 9 AM, free. The town puts a shovel in the ground on the Burch Library expansion: a 300-person civic center that splits into three rooms, a rebuilt children's area, a teen space with actual technology in it. The public is invited to this part, not just the elected officials and the donors. The finished building is due in spring 2028. Details

Toddler Time — Bartlett Library, 5884 Stage Rd., 10:30–11 AM, free. Thirty minutes of stories pitched at the shortest attention spans in Bartlett, and it's over well before lunch. Details

LEGO Club — Officer Geoffrey Redd Library, 5094 Poplar Ave., 3:30–4:30 PM, free. An hour of building with everybody's hands in the same bin, ages 12 and under. No sign-up, just show up. Details

Join the Quest: Dungeons & Dragons — Cordova Library, 8457 Trinity Rd., 4–6 PM, free. Two hours at a real table with a real dungeon master, built for teens. Seats are reserved ahead, and the table was still open when we checked. Details

Pilates in the Park — Overton Park Shell, 1928 Poplar Ave., 5:30–6:30 PM, free. Ballet Memphis leads a STOTT Pilates class on the Shell lawn, written for all ages and every level of experience, as part of Baptist's free wellness series. There's a sign-up form, so register before you head over. The concert series is between seasons. The lawn is not. Details

The Wellness Social — Touché Memphis, 497 N. Hollywood St., 5:30–6:30 PM, free, doors at 5:15. South 3rd Collective runs a midweek group workout with music, free parking and no fitness prerequisite. It isn't on a single calendar in this city except its own, which is exactly why it's here. Details

Seed Library Garden Club: Invasive Pests and Plants — Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, 3030 Poplar Ave., 5:30–7 PM, free. Yes, the library lends seeds. This month the club takes on whatever has been eating your tomatoes since June. Register ahead; it meets up on the third floor. Details

The Comfort Zone, with Steel Waves and Squib Kick — Growlers, doors 7, show 8, $10. Three bands for ten dollars is the arithmetic that keeps Midtown honest. Details

Abigail & The Starlings / Local Brand / Dinosauria — Hi Tone, 282 N. Cleveland St., 8 PM, $13.50, 21 and up. Another three-band bill, this one in the small room downstairs, if three-fifty more buys the night you'd rather have. Details

📰 The Rundown

The gates at TPC Southwind open this morning. Wednesday is a practice-round day at the FedEx St. Jude Championship — the first of five straight days the course is open to spectators, running through Sunday's final round. Worth knowing before you go: every ticket includes the Grounds+ program, so food and non-alcoholic drinks at on-course stands cost nothing once you're in; each ticketed adult can bring two kids 15 and under free; and accounts are capped at four tickets a day. Regional One Health has put a face on its new hospital. The design unveiled for 495 Union Avenue — the old Commercial Appeal site, where demolition is already underway — is a $1 billion, 600,000-square-foot building drawn for 315 beds, expanded trauma, burn and neonatal care, two helipads, and private neonatal rooms so parents can stay the night. It replaces the aging home of the only Level I adult trauma center within 150 miles. (via Tri-State Defender)

Morgan Steel is spinning up a new division at its Pier Street plant. DC-FAB will fabricate steel specifically for data-center construction, which gives the Memphis-headquartered company its own brand for one of the fastest-growing things anybody is building right now. (via Action News 5)

Sorelle Boutique is leaving Poplar Avenue for the Collierville square. The women's clothing shop reopens at 124 E. Mulberry Street in early September, and owner Brittany McCalla says the move isn't a market play: "Collierville and I have a lot of ties and history, so it isn't just a random move." Tacos La Fogata wants walls — the birria-and-gorditas truck parked at 6456 E. Shelby Drive has filed to take over the old Elena's Taco Shop space at 8610 Ricky Bell Cove: 2,450 square feet, room for 80. The certificate of occupancy was still under review last week, so there's no opening date to circle yet — which means the truck is still the answer, and the tacos don't know the difference. The Redbirds come home August 18 — six games against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, August 18 through 23, with tickets starting at $9.01 every night of the stand. They're on the road this week, which is why there's no ballpark line above. Details
