Chance the Rapper on Autumn, opera at trivia night, and the last homestand

Hey Memphis 👋 It's Tuesday. Sunny and 96, heat index back up to 102 — we told you yesterday it was coming, and it kept the appointment.

First ordinary weekday since Friday, and the city switched everything back on at once: most of the museums that close Mondays are open again, the ballpark starts its last homestand, and a rapper you have definitely heard of is playing a room that opened last week.

Chance the Rapper — Satellite Music Hall, 1291 Autumn Ave., doors 7, show 8, all ages. Coloring Book turned ten this year and he's out playing it start to finish, which is how Memphis ends up with a name this size in a brand-new room on Autumn. All ages is the part worth circling — it's rarer than it should be for a show this size. No ticket price on the venue's own page, so that's a box-office question. Details

Opera Memphis crashes trivia night — Crosstown Brewing, 1264 Concourse Ave., 6:45 PM, free. Every September the company spends thirty days singing in rooms that aren't opera houses. Tonight it's a taproom: arias at a quarter to seven, then trivia takes over at 7. Mark Allen plays the earlier shift, 4 to 6. Details

Redbirds vs. Norfolk Tides — AutoZone Park, 198 Union Ave., first pitch 6:45, from $9.01. The last regular-season homestand starts tonight: six home dates, then the only baseball left downtown is the playoff series they've already clinched. Nine dollars and a penny is still the best value in town. Details

LeMoyne-Owen volleyball vs. Oakwood — Bruce-Johnson Hall, LeMoyne-Owen College, 6 PM. First home match of the season in Soulsville, against a team down from Huntsville. The college doesn't publish an admission price, so bring a little cash and expect a gym that sounds like a gym. Details

Emily Skaja & Marcus Wicker: Black Lake and Dear Mothership — Novel, 387 Perkins Ext., 6 PM. Two poets, two brand-new collections, one launch — they're splitting the night rather than each taking their own. Novel asks you to RSVP but doesn't print a cover. Details

Free Tennessee Tuesday at the Zoo — Memphis Zoo, gates at 9, free admission for Tennessee residents, parking $10. The catch worth knowing: it needs an advance online reservation, they're limited, and this week's went up last Wednesday — so check for leftovers before you load the car. Once you're in, the library's Connect Crew runs a Zoo Storytime at the Wild Encounter Stage, 2 to 3. Details

Snacking in the Stables — Bobby Lanier Farm Park, 2660 Cross Country Dr., Germantown, 10–11 AM, free. Bring a snack and something to sit on and eat breakfast with the farm animals, with a city naturalist on hand for the eight hundred questions. Go early; it's outside and it's 96 today. Details

Morse Code Workshop & Craft — Bartlett Library, 5884 Stage Rd., 4–6 PM, free. Learn to tap out your name in dots and dashes and take the craft home. A properly weird after-school two hours, and it costs nothing. Details

Riverside Drive now closes overnight on weekend nights — Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., from Beale down to Georgia Avenue. It started this past weekend as part of a downtown safety push, and the city hasn't put an end date on it, so factor it into late plans by the river. (via City of Memphis)

John Doyle is stepping down at the Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum on September 25, after 23 years running the place. Cynthia Ham takes over on an interim basis. Twenty-three years is most of the museum's life on Beale. (via Action News 5)

We told you the Metal Museum's new Overton Park building opens Friday; here are the numbers we didn't have. Wednesday to Sunday, 11 to 5, $10 adults — and free every Thursday for Tennessee residents. The old bluff campus is closed to the public now. (via Memphis Flyer)

The new I-55 bridge is going to take less of Crump Park than planned. TDOT and its Arkansas counterpart dropped the auxiliary ramp lanes from the Kings' Crossing design, which narrows the thing by about 29 feet and roughly halves the parkland it eats. (via Memphis Flyer)

Stomping Grounds — 2166 Central Ave., 7 AM–7 PM, every day. If you've driven past the old Railgarten corner wondering what happened to it: it's a family clubhouse now. Indoor and outdoor play, a low-stim room for kids who need one, bookable conference rooms if you work from home, and a self-pour tap wall for the supervising adults. Wild Beet runs the kitchen. Weekday passes are $17 — for the kid; adults get in free, which their pricing page puts as free for anyone "under 367 days and over 6,570 days." Details

The Pit Comedy Club opens Thursday — Flyway Brewing, 598 Monroe Ave., September 10, 8 PM. The crew that's been running DIY comedy nights at Flyway for years is making it a proper weekly club in the back room, every Thursday, starting with Alex Kumin.
